Stuart Hall School
Graduates its 166th Class with 100% College Attendance
Stuart Hall School celebrated the graduation
of its 166th senior class on Saturday, June 6, 2009
on the Paradise Lawn of the School's historic campus. Head of School, Mr. Mark Hampton Eastham, presided over the service. . During the graduation service, the
seniors processed under an archway of shepherds' crooks, held by chosen
friends, a distinctive tradition dating back to the 19th
century.
The featured
speaker was The Rev. P. Roger Bowen, a member of the Board, who is retired
as Head of School of St. Stephen's Episcopal in Austin, Texas.
A graduate of the Citadel and Virginia Theological Seminary, Mr. Bowen is an
ordained Episcopal priest who, in addition to his leadership positions in
independent schools, has served in the Peace Corps and continues to serve as United States coordinator for partnerships with
Episcopal schools in Haiti.
All of the 26 young men and women of the Class of
2009 will attend strong colleges, and received over $1M in scholarships. In addition to receiving these scholarships
and being accepted to over 30 of the nation's prestigious colleges and
universities, including the
New England Conservatory, Brandeis University,
Indiana University, the University of Virginia, Washington and Lee University, and
Virginia Tech, the senior class has
exhibited leadership at Stuart Hall through participation in athletics, the
visual and performing arts, community service, and achieving academic
excellence. Seniors who graduated
with an Emphasis in Fine Arts have completed capstone projects in their field.
