Bio: Born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, a New York bedroom community, Barbara graduated from Ridgewood High school in 1967. She completed her undergraduate degree, a BFA in painting with a minor in art history, at Ohio University(Athens, Ohio). In the late seventies, Barbara went back to school for certification in art education at Montclair State College (Upper Montclair, New Jersey) and then continued her studies, earning a MA in printmaking. After teaching for many years in both public and independent schools in New Jersey, Barbara married and moved to Baltimore where she worked in the Baltimore County Public Schools. In 1994, she relocated to Staunton and started teaching at Stuart Hall in 1998. Barbara also works as an artist/craftsman and makes much of her art from "found " paper. Using a collage technique, she creates jewelry, wall pieces, boxes and more. She also does "works on paper," including drawings and prints. For many years, she and her sister have operated the 2-D-O Studio in downtown Staunton. She has also worked extensively with the Staunton Augusta Art Center as a board member and volunteer. This summer she will direct the art center’s Summer Studio program for children. She also serves on the LLC Committee for the R.R. Smith Center for History and Art. Barbara lives in Staunton with her husband, Jack, her mother, Sally, her faithful dog, Clarkie and cat, Mose the Mouser. She enjoys gardening, reading and walking and loves to listen to jazz and "the blues."
