Upper School Homework: At the Upper School level students take on more responsibility for organizing their time and are held accountable for managing their assignments maturely.  Each teacher provides students with a syllabus for the course and with weekly assignments sheets, copies of which go to the Academic Dean and to the Director of the Learning Resource Center, who is available to work with students on homework assignments.  Parents or guardians may request copies of these assignment sheets at any time.  In addition, parents or guardians may request copies of their Upper School student's syllabi.  The Academic Dean, the Learning Resource Director, and all teachers are available to meet with parents and guardians as requested.

When making a decision for Stuart Hall School, we have to take into account weather conditions for a large area including the counties of Rockingham, Rockbridge, Augusta and even Bath to some extent since we have students from all of these areas.  We also look at major areas of student population like Waynesboro, Staunton, Harrisonburg, and Lexington.

We look at the websites for NOAA.gov (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), weather dot com, and public county and city schools.  We look at the hour-by-hour forecasts. We also confer with VDOT when we are worried about roads in specific areas.  We call parents and bus drivers in these areas to check out areas that are habitually problems.

Our goal is to make the decision as accurately and as quickly as possible so parents have the maximum amount of time to plan.  We realize that this is an inconvenience to some parents, but our goal is to make a call that keeps students safe.

Lastly, it is always your decision whether or not to send your child to school when the weather is inclement. You know the conditions in your area and we welcome and trust your judgment.

Thank you for understanding.
