Residence Life Departmental Mission
“The Residence Life Department at Stuart Hall seeks to create a nurturing community that prepares competent young women to understand, commit to, and demonstrate sensitive awareness and respect for self and others, leadership, positive contributions to society, and service.”
There are many components to our residential life program including our dorm parents/on campus faculty(OCFs), prefects and hall assistants and our Dorm Council.
Dorm Parents/On Campus Faculty (OCF):
Dorm parents are adults living on dorm who oversee a hall of students and assist in supervising all boarding students in the evenings and on weekends. Off-dorm OCFs are adults living on campus who assist in supervising boarding students in the evenings and on weekends. All dorm parents are also OCFs. OCFs are on duty each morning for breakfast check-in, on weeknight evenings until 11 p.m., and on weekends from 8 a.m. until 11 or 11:30 p.m. Additionally, a dorm parent is “In Residence” each evening and serves as the contact person for students to go to during the night if there is a problem.
While on duty, OCFs are responsible for monitoring student sign-outs for town permissions, securing all buildings, proctoring study hall, knowing the where-abouts of all students, processing maintenance requests, and maintaining the standards and procedures of the School.
Prefects/Hall Assistants
Prefects and hall assistants are student leaders who assist the Residence Life staff on dorm by serving as peer mentors. They are assigned to a specific hall and assist dorm parents in creating a positive community on hall, checking students in at night, answering phones, and simply by being positive role models. Additionally, an international prefect lives in the main residence hall and serves as a liaison between international students and the Dean of Students Office.
Dorm Council
The Dorm Council serves as a student advisory board to Dean of Students Office. Dorm Council members are elected in the first month of school and meet with the dean on a monthly basis to discuss suggestions and concerns about boarding life.
