Chapel Print E-mail

Stuart Hall School is a member of the Episcopal Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia.   Our chapel services reflect our tradition and are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to persons of all faiths.

At McGuire Lower School students gather at the start of each week for "Mondays at McGuire," a time to reflect on the coming week in a spiritually open environment appropriate for young students.

At Cochran Middle and Gray Upper School, chapel is held Tuesday and Thursday and features speakers from the Stuart Hall community and the community at large.

We see life as a union of body, mind, heart, and spirit.  We therefore go to chapel not to worship in any one way, but:

To strengthen our sense of community

To stimulate our minds

To reflect on life's meaning and purpose

To remind ourselves that ethical and moral issues are fundamental to education

To enhance our understanding of our own spiritual journey and those of others.

It is our goal that everyone who joins in this experience of chapel will leave with inspiration, enlightenment, and eagerness to be of service in the world.

Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

During 2010-2011, the chapel theme is "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow."  Stuart Hall is made up of students, teachers, and staff in three divisions. Our seniors, speakers and programs will place special emphasis on this Chapel theme. The theme, open to a variety of interpretations, immediately brings to mind the history, longevity, present mission, and future potential of Stuart Hall School. As unique as each student and teacher, there will be many ways to interpret and explore this rich theme during the year. As an Episcopal school we desire to forge a community which celebrates the uniqueness of each person, creates understanding and empathy with others, and encourages outreach to the world around us.Regular senior Chapel talks, Mondays at McGuire, and other times for gathering will provide opportunities to experience this theme as one community with a shared purpose.

Families and friends of Stuart Hall are encouraged to join students at Chapel.  Please check the web site, specifically News at STU - schedules will be updated as speakers are confirmed.
