The Cochran Middle School is a lively, vibrant part of Stuart Hall School. As you walk through our halls, you will feel the enthusiasm of our students and teachers. You might even hear spontaneous singing by kids standing at lockers. Visit a classroom and you will hear original stories written by students or see a state constructed out of cake or listen to presentations explaining variables in experiments. Attend an assembly and you will see a community of students and adults celebrating the successes of athletes, scholars, and performers. Please notice, too, our lock less lockers, which signify our community as a place of cooperation, respect, trust, and truthfulness. Within our Middle School, a balance of traditional and hands-on experiences helps our students gain intellectual confidence and independence. Participating in their learning, students read analytically, reason mathematically, communicate orally and in writing, think critically, problem solve independently and cooperatively, and work to develop good study habits. Students also explore art, music, and theater as well as expand their computer proficiency. In small classes under the careful guidance of knowledgeable, caring teachers, our students transition smoothly from our Lower School and into our Upper School. Our Middle School is much more that just academics, however. Our Middle School is a place for aspiring actors, artists, musicians, and athletes to spread their wings because we encourage active participation in and exploration of activities. It is a place to take ownership for service projects and chapel talks. It is place to enjoy a variety of traditions such as dances, Camp Flintlock, "Days Away," faculty-student sporting events, Halloween Dress Up Day, Red and White competitions, Outlooks, Secret Santa exchange, the geography and spelling bees, and community service. Above all, our Middle School is a place for adolescents to form significant, long-lasting relationships with each other and adults. View our:
