Middle School - About

Thank you for your interest in Stuart Hall Cochran Middle School. We are excited to have you learn more about our school and its programs. Please spend a day with us!

Our Middle School is a lively, vibrant place. As you walk through our halls, you may see students sprawled on the floor planning posters or practicing Shakespeare. Visiting a classroom, you may hear original stories written by students or see a state constructed out of cake or listen to presentations explaining variables in experiments or witness a reenactment of a court case. Attend a student-led assembly and you will see a community of students and teachers celebrating birthdays as well as the successes of athletes, scholars, and performers.

Our Middle School balances traditional and hands-on experiences that help students gain intellectual confidence and independence. Participating in their learning, students read analytically, reason mathematically, communicate orally and in writing, think critically, and problem solve independently and collaboratively.

Our Middle School is much more than just academics, however. It is a place for each middle schooler to be herself or himself in a safe environment. It is a place where lockers have no locks. It is a place for aspiring actors, artists, musicians, and athletes to spread their wings. It is a place to take ownership for service projects, chapel talks, dances, and special events. It is also a place for adolescents to form special, long-lasting relationships with teachers and each other.

We invite you to visit us. Whether in our hallways, at our assemblies, or in our classrooms, you cannot miss the excitement, energy, and community spirit that define Cochran Middle School.

Warmest regards,

Sue Appleby
