Camp STU Instructors
Lily Beauvilliers - teaches English and pre-algebra at Stuart Hall School. Prior to teaching, she received a B.A. in Comparative Humanities and French with a minor in physics at Bucknell University. She also has an M.A. in English from the University of Virginia. Lily has herself participated in many summer camps and writing workshops, including the Johns Hopkins CTY program and the Kenyon Young Writers program.
Jesse Croll – graduated from the New School University in NYC with a BA in Anthropology & Film Studies. He won best film at the Santa Fe Short Film Festival and a Cultural Preservation Award for a documentary on traditional Indian dance. He is currently working on his first film screenplay, teaches music privately, and substitute teaches at Stuart Hall School.
Monte Hackney – has focused his love of photography as an art form by creating images that capture interesting perspectives that are intended to inspire thought. He has gained depth in his field through the lens of travel to places such as Costa Rica, where he taught in an elementary school, India, Thailand, Europe, and Ethiopia. A snapshot of his career would also include highlights of working with refugees and leading recreational programs for youth with special needs.
Christiana Holyer – joined the Stuart Hall School community last year as Dean of Students for the Upper School. The prior 10 years were spent at Queen Anne School where she oversaw drama programs during the academic year and summer camp. With 20 years’ experience as a director, actor, and stage hand in community and school theatre, she is looking forward to sharing her love of theatre with Camp STU.
David Hutchings - David Hutchings is the Upper School Spanish teacher at Stuart Hall School. He received his bachelors in Spanish and History as well as his Masters in Teaching from the University of Virginia. David studied art history while studying in Valencia, Spain. He has visited and studied Picasso in the Prado, Reina Sofía, and the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. He enjoys cooking Spanish food and reading about Picasso.
Jenna Matthews – graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education and is working on her Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling. She taught at the Staunton YMCA Summer Day camp for 3 years and coached Middle School Soccer in NC for 2 years. Last year, she led a successful music video camp with children ages 4 – 10. She is excited to see what kind of music video the kids at Camp STU can make! Furthermore, she looks forward to her afternoons as Activities Coordinator, where she will provide the children with a variety of interesting and entertaining summer camp fun.
